Solar energy is set to dominate new electric generating capacity in the U.S. for 2025.
In the first half of 2025, U.S. developers added 12 GW of utility-scale solar capacity and plan an additional 21 GW in the second half. If realized, solar will represent over half of the total 64 GW of new capacity expected this year, with battery storage, wind, and natural gas making up the remainder.
