Solar energy is set to dominate new electric capacity additions in the U.S.
In the first half of 2025, U.S. developers added 12 GW of utility-scale solar capacity and plan to add another 21 GW in the second half. If realized, solar will represent over half of the total 64 GW of new capacity expected this year, with battery storage, wind, and natural gas making up the rest.
